The
documentary form of telling your story started with the invention
of the first camera, and was made popular by photojournalists
or “street” photographers in the early to mid
20th Century by such artists as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Andre
Kertesz, Robert Frank and countless others.
They
used the natural or “available” light at hand
and photographed their subject going about their life unaware
and unposed.
The
fly on the wall risks nothing and everything at the same
time. As I watch people, the greatest works of art, created
by the greatest Artist of all, I struggle to observe without
judgment, praise or condemnation the events that all humanity
participates in, and from which I cannot extricate myself.
For
this reason, I am eternally grateful that I have the privilege
to be part of, and to learn from, these courageous works
of art that I observe. It is my hope that when people view
my work, they see expressions common to us all, represented
literally or abstracted, compelling us to love, forgive,
and celebrate the normalcy of the human race.
I
think God wants us to open the eyes of our soul when we
view each other in the course of everyday events, and see
the
strength of our beings in the most common of human actions.
